my family moved to west richland in 1975 when I was three years old. some of my earliest memories are riding my bike with my friends and siblings on the very soil that this building sits on. the original west richland library, a tiny little building with a half-moon entry sat near this location. we would pedal our little selves down to the library most days in the summer and sit on the floor and read until our hearts’ content, then we would check out as many books as we could carry on our bikes and head home.it’s where my love of books and reading took root.after graduating from hanford high, I left west richland for college. I married, moved to western washington and raised a family. life, as it does, threw in a couple twists and turns. after moving from western washington to south carolina and georgia, we unexpectedly found ourselves returned to west richland in late 2021.my dad built this building in 1997. It has housed many dreams, including his of woodworking, my brother’s of owning a car stereo shop and the community’s of having a steel drum band. it has sat empty for over a decade.i decided it was time for one more dream.A Lettered Home is my love letter to books, reading, vintage art, décor and home. west richland is my home in so many ways. I wanted to build a place where our community could feel welcomed, a place of gathering, a welcoming space that feels peaceful and homey.I appreciate your patience as I navigate becoming a “business owner”, which was never on my bucket list. you may notice the doors are occasionally closed during posted open hours. I am a one-person show undertaking this with no capital backing or loans, just the desire to give what I can back to the community that raised me. I welcome kind suggestions of what you feel might improve your experience or what you’d like to see in the shop.with love,
